This design-build SATOC contract includes milling and repaving of a total of 34,000 square yards and marking and stripping of four roads at Fort Jackson, SC.
Method #1 Reclamation: The roads will be milled to a depth of 2” with all milled material to be hauled off site. Once the road is milled the Reclaiming Machine will pulverize the existing asphalt and sub-base to a depth of 8”. The Reclaiming Machine will then blend dry cement back into pulverized material at an average rate of 60 pounds per square yard. Water will be added at the same time as the cement, which the water to cement ratio will vary based on the optimum moisture content. The blended material will be compacted with a sheep foot roller, graded to roadway cross slopes and final compaction with a smooth drum roller. After the curing process the reclaimed based will be paved with 2” of Surface Course Type B.
Method #2 Preservation: The roads will be milled to a depth of 2 ½” with all milled material to be hauled off site. Once milled we place a Single Treatment layer installed over the entire length and width of the road. The single treatment will then have the Surface Type E leveling course and Surface Type B wearing course installed. The Single Treatment will act as an additional crack retarder to help prolong the life of the roadway.
